Scope

We have worked hard to deliver a great MindSphere Private Standard experience, but we are still tracking some known issues. If you find others, please give us your feedback by contacting our MindSphere Support.

We recommend that you read the following release notes carefully. These notes contain important information for installation and use.

These release notes are relevant for MindSphere Private Standard Release in October 2020 with version V2103.LR.GBL.M0930 / V2103.LO.GBL.M0930.

MindSphere Private Standard

MindSphere Private Standard is now available for light house customers for deployment in virtual private cloud and local private cloud.

Within MindSphere on Private Cloud, you will experience the MindSphere services and applications in the same way with from our public cloud offerings.

Depending on the chosen plans and services for each deployment, the following services will be available with this release:

  • Settings
  • Asset Manager
  • Fleet Manager
  • IoT2040 and Nanobox Connectivity
  • MindConnect Lib
  • Developer SDK
  • Notification Services
  • Device Management
  • Web Component
  • MindSphere API based Services
  • MindSphere Open Edge Framework
  • Cross- and Sub-tenancy
  • App Management Cockpits (Dev&Ops)

Connect and Monitor

  • Settings: Settings is an administration tool used to manage user rights and permissions:

    • Get access as Tenant Admin
    • Get an overview about all users of one specific tenant
    • Manage users including adding and removing users
    • Assign groups and roles
    • Manage access to applications for users group
  • Asset Manager: Asset Manager is an administration tool to onboard and offboard connectivity agents, configure assets, asset types, aspect types and variables, configure data sources and data points mapping. Asset Manager is used as well to configure and provide access to data across tenants.

  • Fleet Manager: Fleet Manager, provides an overview of your assets configured in a respective account, and allows you to search and filter for relevant assets based on various criteria. Fleet Manager allows you to display and monitor measured data and information from your assets. User settings enable you to configure Fleet Manager.

  • IoT2040&Nano Box Connectivity: Establish a plug and play connection to MindSphere and collect and buffer data from multiple field devices using dedicated IoT connectors like the MindConnect Nano or the MindConnect IoT2040 (for an entry level). MindConnect Nano and IoT2040 are devices for collecting data using different protocols and transferring the data to MindSphere. The device supports transmission of data through a secure internet connection, to enable cloud-based applications and services.

Develop and Operate

  • MindConnect Lib: MindConnect Lib is a "C" source code library, which enables customer to use connectivity to MindSphere within its own agents, e.g. embedded devices, programmable controllers or Linux/Windows PCs. It encapsulates the MindConnect API to those devices and handles the encrypted transmission of onsite data to MindSphere through a secure internet connection, to enable cloud-based applications and services.

  • Developer SDK: The MindSphere SDK enables developers to work with MindSphere easily. It is divided into a core module and several service modules, which allows developers to include only those parts of the SDK required for their use case.

  • Notification Service: Notification Service is available via its respective MindSphere APIs. This Service enables you to send emails in relation to certain events defined by you, or send email notifications to (a group of) individual recipients. We may use a Third Party service provider to provide you with Notification Service. Restrictions: Email bounce management feature is not yet available thus cannot automatically blacklist the invalid recipient address.

  • Device Management: Device Management allows to maintain an inventory of all connected devices as well as to manage the lifecycle of device types. The device type is used when determining which software (especially firmware) can be installed on which device instance. A device can only be onboarded to the product via an agent.

  • Web Components: Web Components are ready-to-use building blocks for use in custom applications which do not require a specific framework. These building blocks solve common issues faced by developers during the development of industrial applications, such as navigation between devices or standard visualization types. They can easily be integrated into individual development code and customized to accelerate the application development process.

  • MindSphere API based Services: MindSphere has several APIs at developers’ disposal to enable development of customer owned applications. These APIs are optimized for industrial IoT application development thanks to additional reusable supporting modules.

  • MindSphere Open Edge Framework: MindConnect Open Edge Framework, supports services available via their respective MindSphere APIs, which covers the following Services:

    • Device Management
    • Deployment Workflow
    • Device Configuration
    • Device Status
    • Firmware Deployment
    • Edge Application Deployment
    • Edge Application Instance Management
  • Cross and Subtenancy: A tenant is a representation of a real-world organization. A subtenant is a certain limited resource of a tenant and represents a subpart of a real-world organization or the real-world organization of a third party that receives a service from the real-world organization owning the main tenant.

The sub-tenancy architecture allows tenants to offer services for sub-tenants, customizing the assignment of applications, users, assets, etc.

  • App Management Cockpits (Dev&Op): Developer Cockpit is a system tool from MindSphere, which allows you to generate working skeleton code with appropriate project structure and build tool integration for your micro-service-based web application. You can also register and deregister your application in MindSphere. Operator Cockpit is a system tool from MindSphere, which allows you to manage your applications that you want to provide on MindSphere. You can integrate, monitor, deploy and publish applications in Operator Cockpit.
