Prerequisites

Before a mass balance analysis can be performed, the necessary data must be available. These prerequisites ensure that the system can accurately compare planned recipe quantities with actual consumption and output recorded during production.

The prerequisites for the mass balance analysis are structured into the following two sets of entities:

Core objects (Entities)

These entities are required as the starting point for the mass balance analysis (recipe). In the context of industrial standards such as ISA‑95, the relationship between MaterialDefinition, BillOfMaterial, and BillOfMaterialItem represents the static structure of a product. Together, these entities form what is known as the “Full BOM” or Material Definition Model.

Core objects for comparing recipe and actual output

In the context of mass balance, these entities represent the actuals, i.e. the "as executed" production data. While the core objects entities describe the theoretical structure (the "shopping list"), these entities capture the physical movement of material during production.
