MindSphere Remote Services (MRS) File Transfer

Remote Services provides users with File Transfer capabilities via UI. This can be helpful for:
- collecting data from remote Devices such as log files for further analysis or for archiving them in a central locationx
- delivering files onto remote Devices such as delivering software packages or updates

This functionality is available in MRS V1 either via the tile "Connect to Remote" or via selecting a Device from the organization tree. However, our examples will focus on the intuitive MRS V2 use cases.

Suggested file transfer usage:
- Service Network to Device Network
- Device Network to Service Network
- Re-distribute via MRS Buffer
- Single file transfer
- Multiple file transfer

File Transfer Concept

Note: MRS file transfer via UI does leverage HTTPS - in case tunnel technology is needed for file transfer, the use of appropriate protocols such as Secure Copy (SCP) inside Remote Login connections might be considered.

Note: Retention time in the MRS Buffer is set to 14 days. After this period of time, your uploaded files will be purged from the MRS Buffer.

Example: User explores files available for transfer

Open a Device via the hexagonal icon in the top left and then select it from the organizational tree. If your Device (here we use PC i01) hosts a Device Endpoint, then click "Browse Files" at the bottom right.

Explore files

A viewer shows the selected Device's File Hierarchy. Open the File Transfer menu with the blue expansion icon.

Explore files

The file transfer menu provides various options with the Service Endpoint (formerly known as Operator client) and the Device Endpoint at either side. You may also use the tabs giving you access to the MRS buffer on MindSphere cloud.

Explore files

The magnifier icon provides filters for searching specific files.

Explore files

Sorting of files by different criteria is supported, too.

Explore files

Checkboxes allow for selecting multiple files to be transferred together.

Example: User transfers multiple files to a Device

In this example the User selected multiple files for transfer. Selecting the 3 dots next to their names opens a context menu for selecting the target. In this example the transfer is either to the pre-selected Device or to the MRS Buffer on MindSphere Cloud. In this example we choose the selected Device.

Transfer multiple files

Confirm your selection on the intended transfer mode by clicking "Transfer".

Transfer multiple files

Status messages inform about the processing of the File Transfer request.

Transfer multiple files

The transferred files show up in the File Hierarchy of the selected target Device.

Transfer multiple files

Example: User transfers video to MRS Buffer

In this example we transfer files from a technician's PC located in the Service Network to the MRS Buffer located in MindSphere cloud, so that these files can then be redistributed to multiple other Devices in Operator Networks. We select the option to upload single file Video3.mov from the context menu under the three dots next to the file name.

Transfer to MRS Buffer

A status message informs about the file transfer progress.

Transfer to MRS Buffer

The transferred file now shows up in the tab for the MRS Buffer on MindSphere Cloud.

Example: User views File Transfer history

File Transfer logs, which files a User transferred via the MRS UI. This log is accessible via the "Transfer History" button in the top right corner.

View File Transfer history

Check boxes allow for viewing either the Service Endpoint (formerly known as Operator client) side or the Device Endpoint history. A filter enables searches.

View File Transfer history

The filter provides several search options. Select them via the field just left from the "Search..." input line.

View File Transfer history

The history displays just those transfers with the direction Device to a User's Service Endpoint.

View File Transfer history

It is also possible to view the history for both a Device Endpoint and an associated Service Endpoint together by ticking the check boxes at the top left.

View File Transfer history

This is an example for the file transfer activities activated by a User via his/her PC's Service Endpoint. Some transfers were made to the MRS Buffer, whilst others target a selected Device.
