Energy Forecast

On the Energy Forecast page, you can enter your production plan and calculate an estimated energy requirement. Energy Optimizer uses a model based on historical data to make a forecast for each product in your production plan. With these forecasts, you can anticipate upcoming costs and consider how to change the schedule to take advantage of lower tariffs. You could also compare your actual consumption directly with the forecast and use this as a basis, for example, for target setting and energy performance monitoring.

The Energy Forecast page is located in the Analysis section of the app and can be accessed by selecting the appropriate asset and pressing the "Currently Viewing" button:

Period totals

The Period totals section shows the cumulative values for the energy resources and production volume for the period selected by the date range picker. When you first open the page, before you input any planned data, you will only see data for the actual energy consumption. This includes the consumption of each resource grouped by the product variants that have been recorded for the time range.

In the top left box, you see the "Total product volume" recorded for each product. Note that only the four products with highest volume are shown explicitly; the others will be grouped into an other category. In the top right, a summary of the volume and each energy resource is displayed. These boxes will include the estimate for the forecast values after you enter your planned production volumes (see section below).

The second row of charts show the energy resource consumption values for each product separately. A maximum of four resources can be shown and they will distribute across the row. See the below example, which includes seven products and three resources.

You can change the filters similarly to the other pages. The "Selected Resource" filter supports multi-select, so you can compare multiple resources together. The "Products" filter is a multi-select dropdown. You can select any combination of products that you like. If it is above four, then they will be included in the "Others" category. The date range picker is similar to other views and Insights Hub applications, except that you can only select a maximum of 14 days. This is so that the data displays clearly in the daily overview section.

Daily overview

The Daily overview section is initially hidden. You can view it by clicking the expand arrow analysis-forecast-expand. A time chart for the product volume and every energy resource can be viewed. The time axis is shared between all of these charts and shown at the bottom. Currently, Energy Optimizer only calculates the forecast from planned data at a daily resolution. Each of the bars in the chart corresponds to the quantity produced or consumed on each day. The bars are stacked so the user can see the consumption for each product.

For each day, there are two stacked bars. The one on the left corresponds to the actual energy consumption and the right to the forecast that is based on the production plan. Hover your mouse over the bars to view the tooltip with the precise value of the energy resource consumption. Note that, if there is too much data in this view, then you can use the energy resource filter to only focus on a single resource.

At the bottom of this section, there is a table where you can enter production plan volumes. Each row corresponds to a different product variant, and each column is a day within the forecast period. Initially, this table will be empty. You can add your planned volumes to the table directly here. When you add or edit a value, then the "Calculate" button in the bottom right will be enabled. When you click calculate, then the application makes a model inference and updates the estimates in the bar charts above. You can instead choose to import your planned production volume from a spreadsheet with the following format:

analysis-forecast-import

You can also export the values that are wrtten in the table and use it as a template.

When you select your plan to import you will receive a notification that summarizes the imported data. analysis-forecast-summary

You can import as large a time range as required. However, the app will only display the first 14 days.

When you re-calculate with any new data, then the period total is also updated so that you can compare the totals for the actual and predicted consumption values, as shown below in the dark mode:
